Future Artic Quests (FAQs)

Let's face it.  The introductory post of any new blog is painful for both the writer and the reader.  So let's just do this.  Get down to the nitty-gritty with it.  Move on to bigger (and hopefully better) posts.

Here you go.  All the questions you probably weren't burning to ask but will be presented to you anyways in this handy frequently-asked-questions format.

So...who are you and what is this blog?
Good questions.
It is probably easier to start with the latter of the two.  This blog will attempt in helping capture my upcoming experience working as the music director for KNOM Radio Mission in Nome, Alaska as part of their very awesome volunteer program

Now about me...I am coming into this adventure from a non-Alaskan, non-broadcasting based background.  I grew up in the very non-Nome-esque Charlotte area of North Carolina where I went to a culinary based college.  Thanks to AmeriCorps, a string of great jobs, meeting some of the right people at the right time, and one awesome book, here I am on the brink of what is likely to be my most interesting adventure to date.

It was my time in Farragut Tennessee working as their premier AmeriCorps member that really prepared me for this position.  You can check out my blog for that experience here.

I also have a blog about my time working as a wildland firefighter with AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps here.

Why 'Moose Effect'?
I can usually find some way, often through bouts of intense nerdome, of linking most everything in my life to the Mass Effect theory brought forth in the video game/comic book/novel franchise of the same name.  In short, many of the decisions I have made in the past couple of years have lead me to unexpected places.  I never would have expected my studies as a Foodservice major in college would lead me to wildland firefighting.  I never expected that to push me into water quality work.  To top it off I most certainly didn't expect my dream of working this particular job to come to fruition from my time mapping storm drains in Tennessee.  But alas there has been this 'Mass Effect' of small decisions in my life.  To name my blog Moose Effect seemed cheeky and fun.  Is it?  Yeah? Well too bad.  I already registered this domain.  We have to live with it.

Do you like unicorns?
Wow.  What a strange thing to ask but I will go with it.  Yes.  I love unicorns.  A lot.  I dress like one.  I make music as one.  I am one in my heart.  Stay tuned for unicorny goodness as the blogs continue.
Unicold.

Well, this all sounds very (adjective).  Best of luck to you.
Thank you very much.  I am pretty excited about it all to say the least.  I leave out this Thursday.  It'll be a long flight for both me and Mr. Unicorn.  We go to Chicago->Seattle->Anchorage->Kotzebue->Nome.  Neither of us will likely be looking our sharpest when we arrive.  It will all be worth it though :)

Stay tuned moose friends...
